Datensicherung

Each day, we use our smartphones to digitally capture everyday and significant moments forever.

It’s comforting to know that we can always look at these beautiful moments again and again.

But this peace of mind is only guaranteed if we can trust our storage medium. Can we be sure that our photos and videos will be stored for eternity? Is that even possible?

We will do our best to answer these questions and ensure that no magic family moment is lost in the data jungle.

The smartphone becomes an everyday camera

An elegantly laid table for a birthday dinner. A beautiful, clear day during a family trip to the mountains. Your child’s first day of school.

In our everyday lives, there are countless emotional moments, amusing experiences, and special memories that we want to capture.

The smartphone, our constant companion, has become a popular tool in recent years.

According to a survey by the market research institute Kantar Emnid, 51 percent of Germans use their mobile phones to take pictures.

Second place goes to the digital camera, used by around 20 percent of Germans. And third place, at 7 percent, goes to a more complex camera system with interchangeable lenses, used by advanced photographers.

As a result, an average of 1,070 images are stored on the mobile phone memories of Germans.

Hard drive, cloud, or USB stick—where is the best place to store data?

Unfortunately, there is no one right answer to this question, as every option has its advantages and disadvantages.

According to the electronics shipper Reichelt Elektronik, the most popular storage medium, used by 52 percent of Germans, is the hard drive of a computer. Forty percent of those surveyed state that they only save their photos and videos on their smartphones. Forty percent also state that they save their photos and videos on classic USB sticks.

Mobile phone theft, hard drive damage, hacker attack—these examples call into question an assortment of possible risks when it comes to the security and longevity of our data.

If you want to store your data securely and for as long as possible, a combination of different storage media is recommended.

For example, several hard drives can be combined with each other so that the data of one hard drive additionally secures that of the other.

True to the motto “double holds better,” it’s better to be safe than sorry!

In addition, a selection of data with content that is as non-confidential as possible can be uploaded to the cloud.

With this method, you ensure that all the special moments you capture day after day with your smartphone are safely stored and can be accessed at any time. This makes it easy to reminisce with your family at a later date.

And if you haven’t thought about data backup yet, it’s best to start right away!
